Many of us are faced with the loss or reduction of income and the raising cost of food, fuel, and consumer goods. Maybe it’s time to put your wants aside and focus on your needs. Whether you are single or have a large family, there are ways to cut cost and save money. In fact, three areas that you can consider cutting costs, with an almost immediate impact, are the telephone, cell phone, and cable/satellite TV.

  1. Telephone

    Do you really need call trace, 3 way calling, call blocking, call forwarding (let voicemail take a message) or anonymous call blocking on your home phone? You could save $50 a month by trimming the fat off of your phone services. Another alternative is using the internet to make calls; you can save a ton of money.   2. Cell phone

    To save money on your cell phone you can always switch to a pre-paid service. Most of the major cell phone providers have a pre-paid service, go and check it out. If you are always over in your minutes, you could save money by switching to a plan with more minutes to reduce fees and penalties. When your contract is up, search for the provider with the best deals to meet your needs; many providers allow you to transfer your cell phone number. Be sure to contact your cell phone provider and find out what deals are available to you as a valued customer.

  3. Cable/Satellite TV

    This is a two for one. You save a few bucks with cable/satellite service and get to spend a little more time on your job search, if you are looking, or simply learn something new to keep yourself marketable in your current job. After all, how many channels do you actually watch? You can save money by switching to your providers basic plan or reducing how many TVs are connected. Most cable and satellite providers will work with their valued customers on discounts and value priced packages to retain your business. For those who are really looking to save – connect a digital antenna to your digital TV to receive your local stations.
