Yes indeed you heard correctly, the post office is cutting jobs yet again. Oh, you don't remember - we do. A few years ago, the USPS announced they were having financial problems and closing posting offices along with job cuts soon to follow. Sure enough they made good on that statement and started axing jobs in the form of "early retirement." If that wasn't bad enough they raised postal rates also. So if history hold true, can we expect another rate increase now that the USPS has announced 3,700 post office closing? As for job losses the total is expected to be at least 3,700 if not more.

Of course, the so termed "post office study" attempts to target post office locations that aren't getting a lot of action in the form of patrons. Granted that in of itself is sound management but how in the world does the USPS plan to close a $20 billion revenue gap? With that kind of revenue gap, you can expect more post office closings in the very near future not to mention sky high postal rates to mail a simple letter. How complicated is it to mail a letter? Where are we going with this? A whole dollar to mail a freaking letter? WTF - That's not exactly what i would call "lean and mean." Perhaps even worse, mail delivery once a week, maybe? This is absurd. Something smells fishy. Can we not draw from the stimulus funds? The banks sure did, why not save the USPS? That's probably better than golden parachutes for fat cat bankers. It's a lot cheaper too, only $20 billion compared to the several hundred billion to save bankers instead of putting them in jail. Anyway, for now it looks like the USPS is up to familiar tactics with retail store closings and job cuts - again. Watch out for the ballooning rates.
