The recent passage of the JOBS Act through Congress is, needless to say, good for business. In particular, good for small businesses. Small businesses do more hiring than the big corporations do, so it just made sense to spark hiring amongst small businesses. Ok, so tell you something you didn't know right. Why all of the sudden was it so simple to get the JOBS Act through Capitol Hill if so much gridlock exists?...you know why, it's an election year and both sides [left and right] are posturing for votes. Each wants to make the other look as an obstructionist to economic recovery. Unfortunately or better stated, fortunately, in this case small businesses have been trapped in the middle as political pawns. So given the passage of the JOBS Act, it's not hard believe that the latest hiring frenzy news is actually real. Hummh, now just wonder if it wasn't an election year, then what? Better yet, what happens next year after inauguration is all said and done? Who knows for sure but if you’re looking for work you had better find that new job now while the "getting is good."

pretty much everywhere you look today there is talk about the increase in jobs and hiring. So why is unemployment still high? Go figure. Not only is unemployment still high it is virtually unchanged. In the USA, as a whole, 227,000 new jobs apparently wasn't enough to move the unemployment rate from 8.3% not even .1% come on...Some states like New York and New Jersey are seeing declines in unemployment. Take the 139,400 jobs added last year in New York, which was enough to drive down unemployment to 8.2%. Let us not forget about the 13,300 jobs added last month in New Jersey, which almost erased the 18,700 jobs the state lost for the whole year of 2010. Finding a job in the northeast sure has gotten a lot easier but here again, if some states are seeing major gains like New York and New Jersey then why is the national unemployment rate refusing to move south? The first thought is that maybe so many other states are doing so bad that increases in jobs and hiring in only a few states doesn't make a dent in the big unemployment picture. Makes one kind of wonder who stands to gain by unemployment rate remaining high? Uhhh oh, who said that? It wasn't me...

Sacrificing the environment to create jobs is pretty much the size of it. Big Oil, is not too happy about the "on again" "off again" Keystone pipeline deal. With a $7 Billion dollar investment were talking about sustaining and creating a lot of jobs. With all of Obama's talk about creating jobs and the Jobs Act, you would think getting this deal done would be a no brainer right? Wrong. It's never that simple when it comes to politics. Some believe that Big Oil has little if any credibility given recent debacles like the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Come to think about, they just might have a point.
How can you get mad at environmentalists when Big Oil comes to town and rewrites law and create their own rules as they go? After all, who really wants another Exxon Valdes disaster, not that the BP blunder in the Gulf was anything minor. The point is that Big Oil comes to town holding jobs over the heads of the towns that need them most. What's wrong with that? On its face nothing, but when you factor in the midnight sign-offs which include extremely favorable conditions for Big Oil, that's something different. Now let's factor in the loose or non-existent regulations during drilling and exploration, now you have a recipe for a disaster in the making. These companies will always cut corners for cheap labor, supplies, tools and technology at the expense of the environment. Creating jobs is definitely a good thing but then again having a safe clean toxic free environment is a good thing too. Why is finding a happy medium such a hard thing to do? Instead we just want to go off half-cocked and screw the environment to create a few jobs and make record profits. Do better people. Do better.

Well who doesn't need a job right? Ok, maybe the 1% earners aren't worried about a job so much, but why in the world are US war veterans in such dire financial straits? Like, haven't Vets paid a huge debt to society--100 fold and then some? Really, this is kind of pathetic that we ask soldiers to fight for Lady Liberty abroad, then surviving Vets come home and have to fight for day to day economic survival. Where is the honor in that, where is the homage?
From a business standpoint, sure companies need qualified workers to sell products and services. Got it...but wait, what happened to the cash from the $700 Billion Bank Bailout? Wasn't some of that cash set aside to retool and retrain displaced workers? Why in the world wouldn't Vets get priority access to those funds and services? It just seems like that goes without saying. Apparently not, as Congress is squabbling over a few measly billion (in comparison to the Bank Bailouts) for Vet job placement programs. Talk about losing site of patriotism...get it together people.
On this Veterans Day, let us celebrate the past contributions of US war Veterans but also let us contribute to the current and future economic well being of our Veterans. After all, the surpluses corporations sit on, made through commerce in The Land of The Free were made possible by Vets defending and securing this Great Land. Isn't that worthy of respect? Do whatever it takes to get Vets on the job. After all, Vets need jobs too. Happy Veterans Day!
