Unemployment, while still high, is lowering and the skies look clear for even lower unemployment going into 2012. So, why then all the talk about immigrants stealing jobs from Americans? Hummh, here is a wild guess -- because it's true maybe. Well kinda sorta anyway. In the effort to stay on top, the USA is doing everything possible to attract global talent especially in areas such as science and engineering. Why is that? Could it be too many Americans are busy watching American Idol? Let's act as if we didn't hear that question.

Anyway, to retract the best talent from around the globe, the USA makes use of the H1-B Visa to get the job done. Now what happens after attracting the best talent? How do you retain immigrants once we have allowed them to go to the best schools in the world, most of the time on fully paid scholarships or on the taxpayer's dime? Hummh, perhaps these are reasons why, at least some, believe that immigrants are stealing jobs from Americans. Guess the Harvard scholars that opened the doors wide open to immigrants didn't consider that question. Too bad, maybe they should have. If they had considered and devised a plan, maybe science and engineering immigrants would not leave America, like a bat out of hell, back to the motherland after getting access to the best education in the world for free.

Hummh, did the big bosses really think free education equals loyalty to America? Fat chance. Perhaps it's a good idea to look around within the borders of America for talent in science and engineering. Undoubtedly, there is so much talent already available domestically of which good use can be made. Perhaps, if we invested in native Americans to the degree we invest in immigrants [that have no loyalty to the USA] than maybe we would not hear so much about immigrants stealing jobs from Americans. vets need jobs too

Well who doesn't need a job right? Ok, maybe the 1% earners aren't worried about a job so much, but why in the world are US war veterans in such dire financial straits? Like, haven't Vets paid a huge debt to society--100 fold and then some? Really, this is kind of pathetic that we ask soldiers to fight for Lady Liberty abroad, then surviving Vets come home and have to fight for day to day economic survival. Where is the honor in that, where is the homage?

From a business standpoint, sure companies need qualified workers to sell products and services. Got it...but wait, what happened to the cash from the $700 Billion Bank Bailout? Wasn't some of that cash set aside to retool and retrain displaced workers? Why in the world wouldn't Vets get priority access to those funds and services? It just seems like that goes without saying. Apparently not, as Congress is squabbling over a few measly billion (in comparison to the Bank Bailouts) for Vet job placement programs. Talk about losing site of patriotism...get it together people.

On this Veterans Day, let us celebrate the past contributions of US war Veterans but also let us contribute to the current and future economic well being of our Veterans. After all, the surpluses corporations sit on, made through commerce in The Land of The Free were made possible by Vets defending and securing this Great Land. Isn't that worthy of respect? Do whatever it takes to get Vets on the job. After all, Vets need jobs too. Happy Veterans Day!Laughing

why the no jobs situation is a good thing

You might be immediately inclined to say "no way idiot," but before you do, hear me out why the no jobs situation is actually a good thing. It really isn't tough mental stuff like molecular biology or anatomy, actually it's quite simple. It's business. Yep - just business. In business "less is more" - less demand means less need for workers which ultimately drives wages down, due to a natural increase in the number of people looking for work. Also, less demand has a positive impact on efficiency since employees on the payroll are scared to death for their jobs. That translates into better overall efficiency.

Still in denial? No worries - you're not alone. It still doesn't change the fact that companies (especially large corporation) benefit from slower demand. Cheaper labor, higher profit margins, increased output and performance are "in the bag." So why hire a bunch of people and mess all that up? After all, who goes to school when they have a good job? Who reads the newspapers when they have money in their wallets and purses? Who cares about politics when the check is coming in on time? Say what you will but there are plenty of reasons why the no jobs situation is a good thing for business. Wake up and smell the coffee. Sealed

occupy wall street link to jobs

Occupy Wall Street is picking up steam with now being its 24th day in the lime light. So what't the relationship if any to jobs and employment? Oh make no mistake about it there is a relationship between jobs and Occupy Wall Street. In fact, that seems to be the basis of the movement and protests. Why are so many people out of work, standing in free soup lines and begging for bread while Wall Street not only got bailed out of mess created by Wall Street but not a single person to day has been indicted for anything. Nothing, nada, zilch!

Government funding unpopular programs for the elite is nothing new. On the other hand, financing a Wall Street bailout, on taxpayers dollars, while the unemployment rate stays above 9%, millions continue to be out of work and no one goes to jail is well - bad politics. At least, bring someone in on charges. Make the public feel good - something, but to not even arrest any of the cronies that made this economic situation a reality is not cool. American's are tough and ok with weathering a storms that is felt across the board but when 99% of the worker bees are doing without while 1% are "living la vida loca," that just isn't going to fly. If you don't believe that look around you and ask why Occupy Wall Street is spreading like a wildfire. Then you'll see the missing link --- jobs. Money mouth
