The internet has come into its own such that virtually everyone uses the internet . With that being said, would that continue to be the case if the internet transformed from open to a huge information highway with toll charges everywhere? Just the idea of toll gates [in the form of access fees for premium websites] should be troubling to everyone --- especially job seekers. If such a thing were to come to pass, which seems to worry Google's Sergey Brin, you can rest assured that online job search will change too. Job hunters have become accustomed to finding a job online without being gouged with fees; that will change. The big boards will start assessing fees to make up for the fees passed on to them for consuming massive amounts of bandwidth. On the flip side, a fee structure placed on big boards could help jobseekers since it would likely encourage those sites to clamp down on wasting bandwidth i.e. overburdening ads, excessive external content links, photos, videos, etc. Right now, no one is certain the extent of a toll based internet but one thing is sure; someone will be paying more and that cost will passed on down the chain. Believe it.

Apparently job seekers are still having a hard time with find a job; needless to say since the unemployment rate is still above 8%. In those difficult times "who you know" can be a big time help. If you don't have a lot of friends and resort to finding a job online, you might want to at least keep up with the challenges of doing so today. Just because job postings are up doesn't mean you should shoot off your resume to every Tom, DIck and Harry.

oil jobs still lead the way

All the hype about alternative energy and the promise around such is just that -- hype. The fact of the matter is that oil related jobs still lead the way, as far as energy goes. You can get pissed at BP if you want, but Big Oil is where it's at right now. In a backwards kind of way, the fact that so many people love to hate BP right now has contributed to the latest oil boom right here in the states. That's right, drilling right here in the states. Obama was against this for a while but Big Oil has won in the long run. Drilling in the states has increased considerably particularly in North Dakota and Montana. Those states aren't exactly very exciting places to live, especially given the extreme cold. On the other hand, if your pockets are on "e" than having some warm cash flowing may offset the cold weather.

The increase in drilling has actually created a surplus in jobs. Yes a surplus, to the tune of about 3,000 jobs on any given day, coming out of those two states alone. Again, much of that has to do with the fact that no one is in a hurry to live in either North Dakota or Montana. At that same time, if you're out of a job or looking for a change, a steady paycheck and sleeping in the comfort of your own bed is better than unemployment and sleeping at the YMCA...it's too cold outside. You won't hear any talk about Occupy Bismarck. lol. Still not ready to pack your bags? How about this, there is so much cash flowing through North Dakota right now that people are paying $1,200 a month just to park an RV. WTF - $1,200 a month to park an RV! Before the Big Oil boom you couldn't pay the RV owner to park in the same spots. Totally crazy. But then when you consider the 11 Billion barrels of oil those two states are sitting on, that puts matters into perspective. Get with it...there's going to be lots of oil jobs coming out of that area for some time. Clearly, oil jobs still lead the way as far as energy goes; the only question is will you cash in on gold rush.Bring a sweater...no bring a parka (better yet bring two).Laughing

vets need jobs too

Well who doesn't need a job right? Ok, maybe the 1% earners aren't worried about a job so much, but why in the world are US war veterans in such dire financial straits? Like, haven't Vets paid a huge debt to society--100 fold and then some? Really, this is kind of pathetic that we ask soldiers to fight for Lady Liberty abroad, then surviving Vets come home and have to fight for day to day economic survival. Where is the honor in that, where is the homage?

From a business standpoint, sure companies need qualified workers to sell products and services. Got it...but wait, what happened to the cash from the $700 Billion Bank Bailout? Wasn't some of that cash set aside to retool and retrain displaced workers? Why in the world wouldn't Vets get priority access to those funds and services? It just seems like that goes without saying. Apparently not, as Congress is squabbling over a few measly billion (in comparison to the Bank Bailouts) for Vet job placement programs. Talk about losing site of patriotism...get it together people.

On this Veterans Day, let us celebrate the past contributions of US war Veterans but also let us contribute to the current and future economic well being of our Veterans. After all, the surpluses corporations sit on, made through commerce in The Land of The Free were made possible by Vets defending and securing this Great Land. Isn't that worthy of respect? Do whatever it takes to get Vets on the job. After all, Vets need jobs too. Happy Veterans Day!Laughing
