those unemployment checks just too much to bear

Tired of being out of work? You're not alone; in fact some states believe the cost of those lofty unemployment checks is just too much to bear. Say it ain't so! Sorry, it's definitely so. Good ole' sunny Florida thinks the cost of paying unemployed workers is just too much to bear and should be trimmed. The idea is that the cost of paying unemployment insurance is so high that it is distracting employers from rushing down to Florida and starting a massive wave of hiring. Sike. Are you kidding me? What employers want to set up shop in Florida anyway? Isn't Florida the state that believes the national language should be Spanish instead of English? Isn't Florida also the state where defunct WorldCom CFO, Sullivan, ran for cover after stealing millions from investors and leaving thousands without jobs?

One thing is sure, economic hard times persist as politicians find even craftier ways of shifting tax payer dollars to their own pockets. You would think Florida would have a little more compassion for the average working class, considering blue collar workers account for a hefty percentage of Florida's workforce. Maybe it's too much to ask that Florida find innovate ways to spur job growth instead of raking the unemployed over the coals. Then again, maybe it really is too much to ask. Does hanging chads ring a bell? We didn't forget. The irony is that if it wasn't for Miami, would you even remember Florida was part of the Union? Probably not...maybe it's because of Florida's bad image and public relations. Going after unemployed workers with this idea that paying unemployment checks is too much to bear, isn't helping with Florida's PR either. You would think with an unemployment rate over 11%, Florida would work on good PR. Maybe not. Go figure. Surprised
