Looks like the hunt for job satisfaction leads older workers to jobs with less pay, fewer benefits and less prestige. The primary reasons cited are
- Less stress
- Flexible work schedules
Those are certainly good and understandable reasons given the whole stress thing equals - a shorter life. At the same time, the question that comes to mind though is how can folks stay afloat with a pay cut while everything else seems to be going up?
It's really crazy! You cant even go get a Little Debbie's snack cake anymore for a reasonable price. A few months back you could get a variety of those snacks for 50 cents now they are 75 cents or more. That's a 50% increase in a few short months. OK sure it is just a snack which you can forgo anyway but that seems to be the case with a lot of other more important stuff like say the mortgage/rent, food, clothing, insurance premiums, etc. So what is the formula for success when working with less pay while inflation looms about? Who knows, but American's are certainly gravitating more towards job satisfaction versus high salaries and over the top perks.
