A ray of hope shines through for Indiana as the state has seen its unemployment rate decline below 10 percent in April. Any decline in unemployment is a good thing especially since Indiana is the only state in the Midwest to show a decline. At the same time the decline in unemployment was only one tenth of a percent - down to 9.9%. What a difference a year makes; in April of 2008 Indiana's unemployment rate was almost half of what it is now i.e. it was 5.8% in April 2008. The state has been hurting pretty bad as a result of the automotive and steel industries which will likely cause the recent good news to fade in the wind. For now we will delight in the fact that Indiana's unemployment rate declines - even if it is a fraction of a percent.
