The ripple effect of the auto industry meltdown i.e. GM and Chrysler is starting to make its way to the vast array of suppliers. In particular, Pioneer has decided that it will layoff and/or eliminate 5,800 jobs. If you are into the auto radio aftermarket, then you know Pioneer makes some very high quality CD players, changers, navigation units, etc. Pretty much a lot of the toys that guys like, when riding around in your shiny new car. Unfortunately, Pioneer is likely to become one less option or a least not as broad of coverage with aftermarket radios, etc. due to the auto industry crisis. So much for that. So with limited competition in this space, it is probable that the workers in these Pioneer jobs, slated for the axe, will not likely have a new job to land at. Can you say Alpine Electronics? If you currently work at Pioneer Electronics, Alpine might be a good place to start looking for work. The transition would be nice and neat, plus Alpine makes superior quality auto electronics which you just might get a good discount on as an employee.
