Looks like NCR corp is headed South to Metro Atlanta specifically Duluth, moving its operations from Ohio. The deal reported includes 2,100 new jobs headed to Georgia. The lions share of those jobs will be at the new NCR corporate headquarters in Duluth, with additional manufacturing jobs in Columbus, and customer service jobs in Peachtree City. This is clearly good news for Duluth located in Gwinnett County which has been severely battered with the downturns of the Technology industry. At the same time, it is yet another blow to Ohio which is certainly having more than its share of economic woes.
So what did it take to make the deal happen? How about $60 million...yep $60 million in tax breaks. This is certainly a pleasant ring to the ears of NCR; the problem is that Georgia is already reeling from massive tax revenue declines. In fact, just the month of May Georgia reported revenue losses of 14%. So with all the tax incentives to attract NCR, makes you wonder how the tax incentives will fix the State's budget shortfalls. Oh well, we'll let the deal makers address those details. For now, hurray for Georgians that fill the 2,100 open NCR postilions. Sweet.
